Clinical Neuropsychology
At NeuroKids, we offer comprehensive clinical neuropsychology services to support children and young people with neurological, neuropsychological, neuropsychiatric, and neurodevelopmental conditions. Our goal is to enhance cognitive, emotional, and behavioural functioning, promoting overall well-being and development.
Neuropsychological Assessments
Neuropsychological assessments provide a detailed understanding of how a child’s brain functions in relation to their learning, behaviour, and emotional well-being. These comprehensive evaluations examine cognitive abilities such as memory, attention, and problem-solving, as well as academic skills and social-emotional development. A detailed report provides clear insights into strengths and challenges, with practical recommendations for interventions, therapies, and accommodations. The results help guide families, schools, and professionals in supporting the child’s development and needs effectively.
What Is the Purpose of an Assessment?

Neuropsychological assessments inform understanding in the following areas:

-
Cognitive Profile: Evaluating how a child processes information, highlighting strengths and weaknesses relative to peers.

-
Daily Functioning: Identifying how brain processes impact learning, behaviour, and social-emotional functioning.

-
Diagnosis: Providing insights to support the diagnosis of neurological, neurodevelopmental, or neuropsychiatric conditions.

-
Recommendations: Strategies and interventions to address specific needs.
What Do Assessments Evaluate?

Neuropsychological assessments are designed to evaluate a wide range of skills. This may include:

-
Intellectual Functioning: Verbal and visual reasoning skills

-
Cognitive Abilities: Memory, attention, processing speed and executive functions

-
Academic Skills: Reading, writing, numeracy, and overall learning progress.

-
Social and Emotional Development: Emotional regulation, social skills, mood

-
Adaptive Functioning: Conceptual, practical, social, self-care skills
How Do Assessments Inform Treatment?

Neuropsychological assessments provide key insights to guide interventions and inform support that is tailored to the child's needs. Support may include:

-
Cognitive Interventions: Strategies to support weaknesses in skills, such as memory, attention and problem-solving

-
Behavioural Strategies: To manage challenges, such as impulsivity or frustration

-
Emotional Regulation: Developing coping strategies to manage anxiety and mood.

-
Social Skills Training: Enhancing communication and peer interactions.

-
Educational Accommodations: Inform learning plans or classroom modifications.
The Assessment Process

Initial Consultation
A detailed discussion with parents, caregivers, and sometimes teachers to gather developmental, medical, educational, and social history. Discussions with the child also help identify key concerns and areas to focus on during the assessment.
1
Standardised Testing
The child completes structured tasks using validated tools to assess cognitive, behavioral, and emotional domains. Testing is conducted in a child-friendly environment—whether at home, school, or clinical settings—to ensure reliability and engagement.
2
Behavioural Observations
Observations during testing provide insights into the child’s interaction style, persistence, focus and emotion skills. When needed, school observations are conducted to understand the child’s functioning in real life situations.
3
FeeDback & Liaison
A feedback session allows parents or caregivers to discuss findings, ask questions, and collaboratively plan next steps. We also work with schools and other professionals to understand the child's needs and implement recommendations.
5
Clinical report
Families receive a detailed report with a summary of test findings, a clear formulation explaining the child's neuropsychological and psychological needs, tailored recommendations and strategies to support presenting needs.
