Who We Support
We work with children, young people, and their families who are navigating challenges related to brain injury, neurodevelopmental disorders, functional neurological symptoms, and other neuropsychological conditions.
Our Clinical Focus
We work with children and young people up to the age of 25 who have neurological, neurodevelopmental, neuropsychological, or neuropsychiatric conditions. This includes individuals recovering from brain injuries, living with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Tourette Syndrome, or Functional Neurological Disorders (FND).
We also support children with specific learning needs, emotional regulation difficulties, and behavioral challenges. We work collaboratively with families, schools, case managers and multidisciplinary teams to provide assessment-led, evidence-informed interventions that promote meaningful functional gains across home, school and community settings.
Brain Injury and Neurological Conditions
We provide specialist rehabilitation and support for children and young people recovering from acquired brain injuries, including traumatic brain injury (TBI), hypoxic-ischaemic injury, strokes, encephalitis, non-accidental injury or other neurological insults.
A brain injury can affect cognitive, emotional, behavioural, social and everyday functioning, and specialist neurorehabilitation is often needed to address these sequelae. Support typically begins with a comprehensive neuropsychological needs assessment, which identifies strengths and challenges, clarifies the impact of the injury on cognition and behaviour, and informs rehabilitation planning.
Based on this assessment, we provide tailored support including:
-
Neuropsychological formulation and rehabilitation planning
-
Therapeutic approaches to emotional regulation, behaviour and adjustment
-
Cognitive rehabilitation strategies (e.g. attention, memory, executive skills)
-
Family support and education about recovery and adaptation
-
Liaison with schools and other professionals to support reintegration and continuity of care
-
Multidisciplinary coordination where needs are complex
Therapeutic support is goal-focused and regularly reviewed to ensure it remains appropriate as recovery progresses.
Neurodevelopmental Needs
We support children and young people with established neurodevelopmental conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Tourette Syndrome and specific learning difficulties.
Our approach focuses on helping children manage the functional impact of these conditions on behaviour, emotion, learning and daily life. NeuroKids does not provide diagnostic assessments for neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. autism or ADHD diagnoses).
Children referred under neurodevelopmental needs should already have a formal diagnosis or clearly established profile from a relevant specialist service.
We provide:
-
Psychological or educational assessment to understand cognitive, behavioural and emotional profiles
-
Intervention focused on emotional regulation, adaptive functioning and coping strategies
-
Parent support and guidance for home and school implementation
-
Liaison with education and therapeutic professionals to promote consistent support across settings
-
MDT input where needs are complex
This ensures that intervention is grounded in a clear understanding of the child’s strengths and challenges and is tailored to support meaningful, functional outcomes.
Functional Neurological Symptoms
We support children and young people experiencing functional neurological symptoms (FNS), including non-epileptic seizures, functional movement disorders, sensory changes, gait disturbance, or other neurological-type symptoms that are not explained by structural brain disease, but which significantly impact daily functioning, wellbeing and participation.
Support at NeuroKids is assessment-led and formulation-driven, with input tailored to the individual child’s presentation and needs.
This typically includes:
-
Psychological assessment and formulation to understand symptom patterns and contributing factors
-
Therapeutic support focused on symptom management, emotional regulation and functional improvement
-
Support for families to understand symptoms and respond in ways that reduce reinforcement and distress
-
Liaison with schools, healthcare providers and professionals to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach
-
Integration with medical care where children are under neurology or paediatric services
Intervention is goal-focused and time-limited, with an emphasis on improving daily functioning, confidence and participation across home, school and community settings.
