A Bit About Me

Dr Kathryn Velat is an experienced Educational Psychologist dedicated to supporting children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental needs. As an associate with NeuroKids, Dr Velat applies her expertise to foster inclusive practices and enhance understanding of neurodiversity across educational and therapeutic settings. Her work is deeply rooted in promoting the relationship between brain health and behaviour, enabling tailored approaches that support recovery, learning, and development.

With a specialism in autism and neurodiversity, Dr Velat has led teams of educational psychologists within Local Authorities and contributed to innovative programs such as the Coping with Uncertainty in Everyday Situations (CUES) initiative and the Autism Enhanced Resources Base for primary schools. She plays a pivotal role in the national Partnership for the Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) project and collaborates with the Autism Education Trust (AET) to enhance awareness and support for neurodiverse learners at both local and national levels.

Dr Velat’s academic credentials include a Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychology from University College London (UCL). She also has training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Video Interactive Guidance, broadening her repertoire of therapeutic and consultative approaches. Her additional training in clinical neuropsychology enriches her ability to assess and design targeted interventions for children with neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly those recovering from brain injury.

As a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Dr Velat’s practice is grounded in evidence-based approaches. Her passion for neurodiversity and neurorehabilitation drives her collaborative work with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams, creating supportive environments where every child can thrive.
