A Bit About Me

Dr Tamara Hussain is a Chartered Educational and Child Psychologist with over a decade of experience supporting children and young people with developmental, educational, and mental health needs. As an associate with NeuroKids, Dr Hussain specialises in consultation, assessment, and tailored interventions that empower children and families to navigate complex challenges and achieve positive outcomes.

 

Dr Hussain’s therapeutic approach combines evidence-based methodologies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and personal construct psychology. She is skilled in delivering professional training, including neuroscience-based strategies to support learning and development.  As part of her specialist practice, Dr Hussain conducts EHCP assessments and school placement reviews, including for SENDIST tribunal proceedings, offering expert input to inform decision-making and ensure educational provision meets the needs of the child.

Dr Hussain holds a Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology from the University of East London and is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). With a professional foundation as a secondary-trained teacher, she brings a unique perspective to understanding and managing behaviour, attention, cognitive and academic ability, and social-emotional needs. Dr Hussain’s collaborative, systemic, and compassionate approach ensures tailored, effective support for children and young people with diverse needs.

 

Her work is driven by a passion for integrating neuroscientific research into practice, with her doctoral research exploring how advancements in neuroscience can deepen our understanding of children’s learning and development. A published author, Dr Hussain co-authored 'Essentials in Neuroscience: Key Directions for Educational Psychologists', demonstrating her dedication to bridging research and practical application.

Neuropsychology Services

Our specialist team is neuropsychology led, with clinical and educational psychologists working collaboratively to support the cognitive, emotional, behavioural, social, and educational needs of children and young people. We work closely with case managers to ensure interventions align with rehabilitation goals and support therapeutic and legal processes.

We support children’s mental health needs with evidence-based approaches like cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), systemic therapy and trauma-focused interventions. Therapeutic provision is  goal focused to promote well-being and empower children and families to manage challenges effectively.

Through assessments and tailored interventions, we support children and young people to manage educational challenges, develop skills and achieve their full potential. We work with families and educational professionals to foster positive relationships and promote inclusive practices. 

We conduct in-depth assessments to identify cognitive strengths and challenges, providing information to inform interventions and rehabilitation. Assessments address needs such as behaviour, learning, memory, attention, executive functioning, and social-emotional regulation.

We specialise in working in the medico-legal setting providing expert witness neuropsychology and educational psychology assessments. delivering comprehensive evaluations, impartial reports, and tailored rehabilitation recommendations.
