Data Protection & Consent
Transparency, confidentiality, and safeguarding are central to our clinical and medico-legal practice.
Data Protection & Information Governance
At NeuroKids, we are committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and security of all personal and sensitive information entrusted to us. We recognise that the information we hold about children, young people, families, and professionals is highly confidential and must be handled with the utmost care.
Data Handling
All data is processed in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and relevant professional and ethical standards. We operate robust information governance procedures to ensure that personal data is collected, stored, used, and shared lawfully, securely, and only where it is necessary for the provision of clinical, therapeutic, or medico-legal services.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and adhere to UK GDPR and data protection regulations to ensure all client data is managed securely and lawfully.
-
Secure Data Handling: All personal and clinical information is stored securely and accessed only by authorised professionals, with records retained for the required period before being confidentially archived or destroyed.
-
Encrypted Communication: Electronic data, such as medical or legal reports, are handled via secure, encrypted systems to ensure client confidentiality.
-
Confidentiality: Strict confidentiality policies are followed when managing client records and communications.
-
Informed Consent: Consent is obtained before proceeding with assessments, data collection, and reporting.
Informed Consent
Before any assessment, therapeutic intervention, or report writing begins, NeuroKids obtains informed consent from the appropriate individual(s). This ensures that children, families, and professionals understand the nature and purpose of the work being undertaken, how information will be used, and any limits to confidentiality.
Consent processes include:
-
Clear explanation of the assessment or intervention being provided
-
How personal, clinical, and sensitive data will be collected, stored, and shared
-
The purpose and intended use of reports (e.g. clinical planning, education, or medico-legal processes)
-
Any circumstances in which information may need to be shared without consent (e.g. safeguarding concerns or legal obligations)
Written Consent to Psychological Treatment and Data Consent Forms are required before services commence. Where a child or young person lacks capacity to consent, consent is obtained from a person with parental responsibility or appropriate legal authority, in line with relevant legislation and professional guidance.
